GETANO was raised in a tin shack on the banks of the Pioneer River in his home town of Mackay, North Queensland, Australia. Through a corrugated iron window, Music, dance, storytelling and especially humour were an influential and integral part of his childhood, growing up in an extended Torres Strait Islander Family. "My Father was a ‘Ten Pound’ Scot’s man who travelled to Australia from Aberdeen and my Mother a descendent from KEBISU, a Head Hunting Chieftain from Iama (Yam) Island in the Torres Strait."

 

As a Singer, Songwriter, Storyteller and Entertainer for well over 40 Years, GETANO has been described as gifted, highly professional, provocative, passionate, poignant, and oftentimes extremely humorous. GETANO's songs are a rich potpourri of musical styles. In amongst this musical feast GETANO intertwines family stories, cultural perspectives, and deeply personal introspective moments all served with a large table spoon of humour. Which makes for a performance of irresistible listening and entertaining moments. 

 

GETANO works as a Music Therapist specialising in Children and Adolescent issues which include addictions, self-esteem, anger, bereavement, mental health, grief and loss.
